Factoid Friday

In the early years, Homecoming was celebrated during the winter months in conjunction with a basketball game. The first Gustavus Homecoming linked to a football game was in 1926.  The homecoming slogan was “Beat St. Olaf,” which the Gusties did: 7 to 0.

  26 Nobel Laureates were on hand for the  dedication of The Alfred Nobel Hall of Science in May of 1963. The building was designed by Setter, Leach, and Lindstrom of Minneapolis. In November of 1982, Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden visited campus and unveiled the sculpture titled Sun Glitter by Carl Milles. They are returning on October 5 this year. Details can be found at the Royal Visit website.
