Did you know…. The first pupil of Gustavus was Jonas Magnuson (Magny) in 1862. He was a 20 year-old who grew up in the Chisago Lakes area and was the only pupil until the winter term. His fees were $1 for his room, 75 cents for his board and tuition was free! He went on to become an ordained pastor and became the first person working on fundraising for the College, as he traveled around the St. Peter area, collecting money for the construction of Old Main, which opened in 1876. was the only pupil until the winter term.
