This week on April 4th, 1902 a chartered train carried about 250 Gusties to Northfield, MN for the first state oratorical contest. The use of ebony and gold banners on the train trip was the basis for our College colors.

“Gustavus Adolphus? What kind of college is that?” Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. Leno was doing a 2001 segment that included four Gusties who happened to be on Spring Break in California (Susie Harding ’04 , Alison Witmer ’04, Nicole Hurt ’04 and Jena Hipp Jensen ’04).
