Forensics teams have a long tradition of competition  at Gustavus.  The tradition of excellence started with the forming of debating, speech, and parliamentary societies in the 1880s.  Traveling orator competition began in the first part of the 20th century and was taken to a new level under the leadership of Evan Anderson in the 1920s.  The winning tradition has continued to the present day! This is a photograph of the Gustavus Oratory team with a few members of the Oxford University Debate team. You may remember one of the people in this 1931 photograph—his name is Harold LeVander ’32 and he would later be the Governor of Minnesota.
