Words of Wisdom: Gustie Lingo Edition Posted on November 9th, 2011 by

GUSTIE LINGO:      (secular language known by Gusties…)

The Blue: The ‘Blue’ refers to the practice courts and indoor track in Lund Center located near to the Gus Young Basketball Court. The area is the color blue, hence the name.

The Red Desk: The ‘Red Desk’ is the main information center in Lund Center, its also where you leave your Three Crowns ID Card to check out racquetballs and basketballs.  In the summer of 2011 it was repainted to reflect the school colors.

Admin: Carlson Administration Building housing such departments as the President’s Office, Finance Office, Registrar, Institutional Advancement, and Financial Aid Office… The building is located where the old Auditorium stood before it burned down in January of 1970.

Alumni:  Although it indicates graduates of Gustavus Adolphus College, in everyday lingo it mostly refers to Alumni Hall, a large meeting/programming room in the upper level of Johnson Student Union.  Alumni is used for a variety of events — from guest speakers to swing dancing to the labyrinth as a part of “Sacred Space.” Alumni Hall used to be home to the basketball court and a suspended track when the Johnson Student Union was the athletic center.

I hope the Red Desk is still called the Red Desk. Just like I hope people still go by Safety and Security or S&S
