This is a picture of the Auditorium which was completely gutted by a fire on January 8, 1970. The “Aud” served not only a meeting place, and Chapel, it housed multiple administrative offices including Alumni Relations. A majority of the 3 by 5 index cards with our alumni address records had to be recreated by then-Alumni Director Cecil Eckoff ’56.
I remember watching from my dormer window on the third floor of Johnson Hall dorm. Couldn’t go outside because it was after 11:00 curfew and the dorm was locked for the night. We hoped they would unlock us if the wind started blowing in our direction.
