On November 11, 1938, the Gustavus community suffered a great tragedy. The bus carrying members of the football team back from St. Norbert’s was in an accident that killed athletic director George Myrum and two students, Donald Anderson ’40 and Carl Olson ’41. Four months later the new Myrum Memorial Field house was completed and named in memory of the coach who had been a dominating force for Gustavus athletics since 1925.
